Bongani Sotshononda
Bongani is an internationally acclaimed Chromatic Marimba and Marimba Percussionist, as well as a composer, with over 20 years of experience captivating audiences both in South Africa and around the world. He has collaborated with renowned vibraphonists like Stephon Harris (New York), Pascal Schumacher (Belgium), and Magda de Vries (Japan), as well as the UCT Big Band under Professor Mike Campbell. Bongani has shared the stage with prominent musicians including the Brubeck Brothers, Morris Goldberg, and Willie Van Zyl Haubrich. Currently, Bongani serves as the Director of Music and resident Marimba player at the Marimba Cafe at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. He also leads the popular Phambili Marimba and Brass Ensemble, Kalimbe, and Intsholo. In 2005, he co-produced and directed the opening ceremony of the World Association of Engineers at the CTICC. A frequent performer at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with his 13-piece ensemble, Bongani performs solo and with various groups, including his marimba duet, trio, and full marimba band, offering audiences an unforgettable musical experience.
