Dave Reynolds
Dave Reynolds, born in Namibia, is a highly accomplished composer, multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning artist. He graduated Cum Laude from Rhodes University in 1993 and, in 2006, founded his own record company to publish and release his projects. In 2007, he released Grassroots, a collaborative album featuring Siya Makuzeni, Concord Nkabinde, and Louis Mhlanga, which was nominated for four SAMAs. Two years later, he produced and released Beyond, a posthumous collection of previously unreleased recordings by the late Gito Baloi, some of which he co-wrote.
In addition to his work as a composer, Dave is renowned for his expertise in the steel orchestra and traditional sub-Saharan African music. He shares his extensive knowledge with close friends and fellow musicians Pops Mohamed and Andrew Tracey (son of Hugh Tracey). Dave and Pops have performed over 200 concerts together, including numerous workshops and outreach projects. In 2015, they performed at the Standard Bank Jazz Festival and released Live in Grahamstown, an album nominated for Best Jazz Album at the SAMAs. Their collaborations often feature unique blends of musical genres, such as Afrikaans hip-hop artist Jitsvinger, who added his rhymes alongside Khoisan spoken texts.
Dave has toured and recorded worldwide with legendary artists like Andy Narell, Steve Newman, Hugh Masekela, Gito Baloi, Tony Cox, Sipho Gumede, Paul Hanmer, and McCoy Mrubata.
