In days gone by, music for silent movies was provided by a live musician. Kevin Kraak and Richard Cock will recreate that experience by providing a live soundtrack to a silent movie. Audience participation is allowed – hissing for villains and cheering for heroes will be actively encouraged. This fun evening is paired with a Can Can of Granache from Renegade Wines and includes a picnic dinner. Popcorn essential! Movie title remains a secret for now. CREATIVE CREATURES OF GROOTVADERSBOSCH

Nature and Art come together in this unique event. Join renowned Cape Nature Scientists as they introduce six special creatures of the Grootvadersbosch forest. Each species has been captured in a nature portrait, by local artist, Donovan Julius. Donovan will share his artistic, colourful and vibrant visual arts creative process, while the scientists explore the creatures’ natural history. South African international opera star, gifted tenor, Siyabonga Maqungo and local soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, accompanied by Kevin Kraak (keyboard) and Lucia di Blasio Scott (violin) will bring you a programme of popular songs and arias. Siyabonga Maqungo, making a special debut appearance at the Silver Mountain Music Festival, during his short visit back to South Africa, is currently based at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden). Hlengiwe has enjoyed international success in both Europe and America, but is back in in the country she loves best, and is thrilled to be making her debut at the Silver Mountain Music Festival. The Shed Concert at Silver Mountain Music has always been the highlight of the festival, and this year will be no exception. The show features beloved maestro Richard Cock, Tenor Siyabonga Maqungo, Soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, the Cape Town Brass Quintet, pianist Kevin Kraak, and Magdalena de Vries on Marimba. Visual artist Donovan Julius, will be painting while the show is happening, inspired by the music. Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music with us. Join freshwater ecologists, Dr Martin Jordaan as she takes you into the field to explore the unique aquatic diversity of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy’s rivers. For the last three years, the Conservancy has partnered with Table Mountain Fund and Cape Nature to improve river monitoring and to communicate the threats facing our aquatic species. Come along and experience what it is to be a real freshwater ecologist. Bring shoes that can get wet and a wetsuit (if you dare).
