Jeanne Gouws
Jeanne studied at Stellenbosch University where she completed a Biodiversity and Ecology course (BSc), followed by an Honours degree and then a MSc degree in Zoology. She joined the River Conservation Unit at CapeNature directly after her MSc where she was employed for three years on contract, mainly conducting the River Health Programme surveys in the then four Water Management Areas for the province. It was during this time that she was accredited as a South African Scoring System (SASS version 5) practitioner. She was appointed as a full time Freshwater Scientist at CapeNature in 2010, a position which she continues to hold today. One of her many responsibilities include conducting assessments of the health conditions of selected rivers using aquatic invertebrates as a biological indicator of water quality and instream habitat diversity.
