KEITH MOODIE
Keith Moodie was born on Grootvadersbosch Farm and has been actively farming there since 1982, having completed a BSc in animal husbandry at the University of Stellenbosch. He is the fifth generation of his family to farm at Grootvadersbosch. When he came to the farm it was mixed farming; wheat, sheep and dairy. Initially, he focussed on building the dairy herd until, in 2000, the farm became exclusively dairy. The herd was upgraded to a stud called Melsetter Jerseys. An ongoing programme of artificial insemination continues to maintain a very high genetic standard. In addition to being vice chairperson of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy, Keith manages a large conservation stewardship area. He is also known to enjoys some serious trail running, which often involves adventures into the Langeberg Mountains and beyond. Some day soon he plans to row across an ocean but so far only his incredible jersey cows have offered to join in the adventure.
